Meet Some of Our Team

Stuart O'Brien, Director

Stuart O’Brien makes up one half of the H and OB partnership. Within the business Stuart manages the overall organisation of projects, with his main focus being upon the internal part of the H and OB team.

Stuart has always lived in Oxfordshire and has over 22 years’ experience in his profession. From a young age Stuart has always been business minded and was keen to learn a trade. He graduated from College with his level 1, 2, and 3 NVQ’s in plastering, going on further develop his skill set and create his own company.

Over the next 13 years Stuart went on to manage bigger projects and took a further interest into more aspects of general building.

Stuart is a great communicator has formed good relationships with fellow construction workers, developers and architects and it was while joining forces on a couple of larger contracts that Stuart and Leo realised they worked well as a team. They then merged and created H and OB building back in 2015 and have successfully built a growing partnership since then.

Leo Haines, Director

Leo makes up the other half of the H and OB partnership. Leos works alongside Stuart with workforce and job organisation, giving his main attention to the External team.

Leo has also always lived in Oxfordshire and comes from generations of Builders giving him strong roots in the industry. Leo studied brickwork as an NVQ at college, going on to ascertain his trade, whist working alongside his Father.

Leo thoroughly enjoys building and is passionate about his trade, and has gained a vast knowledge of experience over the last 18 years in the industry.

Whilst working for a previous employer Leo won employee of the year and has a long history of exemplary work which he now instils in his own workforce.

Leo started his own company in 2012 which ran successfully until merging businesses with Stuart O’Brien due to the increased workload demand. Leo and Stuart have a great professional unison, working together as joint directors, and have seen their business go from strength to strength over the last 5 years.

Ben Jackson, Carpenter

Ben is Qualified in level 2 NVQ bench Joinery and has been working in the carpentry trade for 15 years. He started working for H&OB Building back when the business first started 5 years ago as a sub contractor and last year was taken on as a full time Employee.

He enjoys doing the work he does as every job is different, and he is turning the customers dream in to reality. Kitchens and bespoke cupboards, wardrobes etc are his speciality.

Rob Hipkin, Plasterer/General Builder

Rob has worked for Stuart since the beginning of his career in the trade. Gaining training in plastering and general building. It has just been his 10 year anniversary! Rob then stayed with the company when H and OB merged in 2015.

In his spare time Rob is chairman and head groundsman for Minster Lovell Football Club and is also planning a wedding with his long term girlfriend in April 2021.

Luke Hessy, Painting and Decorating

Luke has over 7 years experience in the trade with 4 of those years spent with H&OB building.

Luke’s favourite part of his job is Seeing the transition of a room before and after his work he also enjoys giving the finishing touch to jobs.

Qualifications - NVQ Level 2 in Painting & Decoration.

In his spare time Luke enjoys time with his family/daughter, Playing football and socialising with friends.

Kiel Batten, General Builder

Kiel joined H and Ob in 2019 and brought a wealth of experience with him. Kiel is always keen to meet customers’ needs and expectations and works hard as a member of our team.

Within the company Kiel carrys out a range of skills across the construction trade and is ever evolving within the company.

Out of work he enjoys socialising with his friends and girlfriend.

Tom Ward, Carpenter

Tom has a level 3 diploma in Bench Joinery and is highly skilled in his trade.

Tom previously lived in London and moved to Headington in Oxfordshire in 2019 which is when he joined H and OB building.

He used to make bespoke cabinets and then went on to gain a more advanced skillset in carpentry and general construction.

He has a vast knowledge in his trade and is great at time keeping and communicating with customers, who often give fantastic feedback after he has finished a job.

Training and Investment in Staff

At H & Ob Building we invest a lot into our staff, both Leo and Stuart have worked hard themselves for other companies previously before they became self-employed and created the H and OB firm. This has therefore given them a great grounding and understanding to treat their workforce as they themselves would like to be treated.

All staff working for the firm are encouraged to reach their full potential in their chosen trade. We have successfully had an apprenticeship program running for the last 4 years. We realise the importance of encouraging more individuals to join the construction profession and are therefore keen to take on a regular apprentices.

The majority of their team have been offered further training from H and OB to improve their training with several courses such as:

  • CSCS health and safety tests.
  • Fork lift driving courses.
  • Site supervising courses.
  • Bricklaying, plastering and carpentry NVQs.
