Bespoke Orangeries, Oxfordshire

Bespoke Orangeries, Oxfordshire

H & OB Building can plan, provide and build bespoke orangeries at the front, side or rear of your home in Oxfordshire.

A bespoke orangery can be built precisely to your means and requirements, offering more freedom over a prefabricated conservatory.

The orangery will compliment the house when created using stone to match – whether that’s Cotswold stone, Oxford stone or limestone – you name it.

Beautifully built bespoke orangeries can add space, light and value to your property.

What is an Orangery?

We construct the orangery in brick, but it usually has a prefabricated glazed area between 50% and 75%. The final look is very different from an extension or conservatory.

The roof of an orangery is commonly tiled but could be solid, partially glazed or fully glazed if you prefer.

The appeal of an orangery is that sunlight is let into the room all year round, which helps you to enjoy your garden during the winter months too.

Which.co.uk has a great guide on choosing an orangery.

What is the Cost of an Orangery?

How much a conservatory extension costs entirely depends on how big it will be and where you will have it built.

A bespoke orangery often works out cheaper than a home extension, whether it is a small or large orangery. Just ask us for a quote.

Bespoke Orangeries Building Regulations and Planning Permission

For a small orangery, building regulations are straightforward. The building is exempt from building regulations when it:

  • The floor area is less than 30 square metres.
  • Is built at ground level.
  • Is separated from the house by an external wall or windows.
  • Has an independent heating system.

Glazing and any fixed electrical installation must also comply with building regulations, which H & OB Building would adhere to.

For a large orangery (anything over 30 square metres), we must submit a plan to the local authority, which we can do for you.

Please see our page on building regulations for more information.

Planning Permission for a Bespoke Orangery

In most cases, an orangery doesn’t need planning permission, but some cases will need it – like larger structures or having a completely solid roof. We can advise on this when we quote for your orangery.

In the meantime, please see our planning permissions page for more information.

Orangery Windows and Doors

We work closely with MHW Windows in Witney, which supply and fit prefabricated orangery windows and doors.

They also provide fitted blinds to keep the sun under control on bright or hot days. Blinds keep the room cool and comfortable.

MHW Windows can also fit ventilating windows, triple glaze, turn and tilt, french or bi-fold doors. Whatever your choice within the regulations.

Orangery Comfort

H&OB Building wants you to be relaxed and happy in your new orangery, so we offer the following ways to regulate the temperature in the room.

  • Air-conditioning.
  • Mains radiators.
  • Electrical radiators.
  • Underfloor heating.

Building a Bespoke Orangery in Oxfordshire

Like any other extension, an orangery extension must have foundations to support the weight of the building.

Orangery foundations are not as deep as a standard extension, which will help save on costs and building time.

H & OB Building take every step we can to reduce any disruption to the lives of the residents during the building process.

To start building an orangery, we remove the earth from the area we remove from the location as needed.

We then create a base and foundations for the building, after which we build the orangery walls. At this stage, you will see your orangery taking shape.

The electrics for the lighting and heating are fitted and after that. Then the flooring of the orangey is put down.

Our professionals will plaster and paint the interior to give the new orangery an internal look that suits your home.
